A fanzine is inevitably personal. Not only the contents and ideas in it but the events in your life that inform how you put it together.
As our zine matures and our editorial team becomes more international and intersectional, we felt the need for the content to touch base with where we are in life as people and as zinesters.
The Juice #07 is released only weeks after a 10-month journey that took us way out of our comfort zones. Creating a publication while living in a different continent made us feel like aliens at times, but most of all brought us the realisation that a zine is a manifestation of what makes us tick. It’s a universe composed of the worlds that each person who collaborates with us carries within.
Number seven is our earnest effort to document those worlds.
To bring them to you, we’re launching our new zine with a two-day event jam-packed with activities:
Wednesday 27th
We kick things off with the opening of Other Worlds - an illustration group show where nine artists display their widely diverse interpretations of our zine’s theme, featuring:
Aleesha Nandhra
Cici Suen
Elisabetta Calabritto
Ieva Berzina
Naiting Huang
Nix Ren
Omar-Andres Hernandez
Samuel B. Thorne

Thursday 28th
For the second day, we’ve put together an affordable zine editorial workshop - an afternoon crash course in modern zine-making and its tools of the trade - and an eclectic evening of live music with three talented acts that have released some of this year's best projects:
Evening events are free entry. Make sure to RSVP to get £1 off the zine final price during the event.
heka finds her sound in other drugs and comes out with her boldest release yet.
A four-track EP, assembled in the bedroom and brought to life in a small studio on Gillett Square, sees her reunited with long-time collaborator and producer Alessandro La Barbera (Los Padres).
If the singles released in 2017 were but an eclectic collection of sonic directions, on other drugs, heka's sophomore Juicy release, the vision is clear.
Saturated lo-fi beats with a hip-hop aesthetic, distorted guitars and multi-layered vocals chase each other in loops of melancholic melodies.
We're doing a very limited run of cassette tapes that you can pre-order exclusively with a special t-shirt bundle. Only 50 available!
And there's more: if you opt to collect your pre-ordered bundle on October 23rd at the free-entry EP release gig we're putting on at Rye Wax, down in Peckham Rye, you get £2.00 off the final price!
Make sure so come down and be part of the birth of this new record. heka will perform all the new songs alongside some of the older gems and will be joined by a few special friends.
heka is single-handedly bringing Summer back. There, we said it.
The little video above, a stripped-down live version, is meant to give you a taste of the other drugs EP, her upcoming debut tape.
The 4-track EP, co-produced by Ale from Los Padres, will be out October 23rd. Physical cassette will feature all original artwork designed by the artist herself.
Release gig to be announced soon.
The tiger balm boys are back.
S E M F I M is the new album from MUAY, the latest chapter in their musical explorations. Six songs recorded inside a small pigeon barn, during the cold nights of a Northern Winter, where time bends and never ends.
Where CE LES TI AL, their previous album, looked up to the skies, S E M F I M looks inwards and around. You will notice an omnipresence of synths and ambient textures taking a more central role. You can hear "endless echos" as each song blends into the next one, in a conceptual effort that sees MUAY delivering a record that is meant to be played on a loop.
Juicy is in charge of the digital release. S E M F I M can be found on all major digital and streaming platforms. Pick your poison:
Spotify | Apple Music | iTunes | Google Play | Amazon Music
And of course, we're not leaving things at digital-only.

Last year we grew outside of our comfort zone as a publication. By publishing work and words by people from communities that had not been given visibility on previous zines we started a process.
This year we want to build on that process and expand it beyond our own editorial limitations.
So issue 7 of The Juice is about what is outside of our reach. There are endless worlds outside of what each of us can experience as individuals. We want to document them.
“Other Worlds” is the overall theme for the new zine. We want you to bring your world to us. We want to talk about the irregular, the uncommon, the ostracized, the outside the box. Other ways of doing things. Other perspectives. Other experiences. Other cultures. Other zines.
In an effort of continuation, we would particularly like to hear from people who have never collaborated with a fanzine before, people from minority groups who are underrepresented in mainstream media, or people who feel a specific topic/experience lacks visibility and accurate depictions in the regular channels.
Illustrators, bloggers, writers, musicians, artists, photographers, designers, entrepreneurs...whatever your craft, we’d love to hear your take on the ideas expressed above, or just pitch us something you’re passionate about.
The theme and guidelines mentioned above are not exclusive and strict, so to be clear: this is an OPEN CALL to ANYONE AND EVERYONE.
We will be accepting submissions and ideas until April 30th 2019.
Just send us an email or use our contact page.
It’s been a minute since our last update, a few things have changed.
In 2018 we didn’t put out any new records. Still, it was probably our busiest year to date.
We put on several gigs in London, all three of our current acts went on small international tours (Heka even went on the radio), we did a new t-shirt and closed the year with what was undoubtedly our most successful zine release to date - so successful that we only have a couple (that’s 2!!!) copies left!
But 2018 was also our last year officially based in London.
After almost a decade in this city the cost of living has become too much of a burden, and running a label-cum-publisher out of our bedroom can never be a long-term solution. Add that to the real prospect of a no-deal Brexit and the move became imperative.
So where are we going next? The world. We start in Singapore on February 1st and the aim is to become a fully mobile entity, travelling and running things remotely while also taking the opportunity to collaborate with people from parts of the globe which would otherwise be off our radar.
Before you ask: no, we’re not becoming a netlabel, a digital-only publisher, influencers, digital nomads, or an instagram travel couple...yes, there will be way more online activity, specially related to our journey, we got a few tricks up our sleeves and ideas we want to try, but we’re still very much fond of physical formats and the intimate and personalised experience of holding a carefully crafted artefact in our hands.
So do expect at least two new records being released soon, a new zine later in the year, and probably more, once we get our modus operandi fully running.
Thank you so much for your continued support over the years and to all the collaborators who have been kind enough to share their knowledge and time with us on all the projects. All of you have been crucial to the start of this new stage and we’re super excited to show you what’s in the works for the future.
And if you’re just now finding out about us, keep an eye out cause things are about to get more dynamic than ever.
New issue of The Juice Fanzine is finally ready!
“Growth” is the theme for issue 06 so we pushed ourselves out of our editorial comfort zone, reaching out to new people, some of them from communities who we felt may have been outside the scope of our previous zines. And we're also printing contents in full colour and doing a 2 day event for the first time!
Alongside the zine launch we’re also hosting JUVENTUDO, a photography exhibition from Bráulio Amado, the unrelenting design & illustration powerhouse known for his work with entities such as Adidas, The New York Times and artists like Frank Ocean.
Challenged by our team to collaborate with us on the zine, he politely declined a career retrospect interview and proposed JUVENTUDO instead - an unpretentious series of gritty point and shoot photographs. Candid moments compiled with a satirical take on the photography/zine world.
This is the very first time Bráulio presents his photography in London.

Who doesn't love ice cream?
It's been years since we did a wearable merch piece, so this time we had to twist it up a bit.
Ieva delivered a minimal and summery interpretation of our logo, Gabriel at 1831 Shop did the embroidery and we picked soft-style white cotton tees. Perfect for those hot Summer days.
They were done for as a special limited run for our Juicy Sunday party at Rye Wax, but you can get them from the webstore too.
