Summertime is always the best time. We all love the sun and heatwave is on its way of becoming the word of the year in London.
That's why we're doing a takeover of Rye Wax in August, and we bringing along a bunch of friends.
We'll have over 6 DJ's and 2 live acts - including our very own Heka - span over a good 7 hours of uninterrupted music. Add that to the chill temperature of Peckham's most famous basement and their refined supply of drinks, food & records and we're set for a banging day.
Brainstormed by the power duo that comprises Los Padres and backed by JUICY RECORDS, HEATWVE is about blending elements and bridging gaps between sonic edges. With a strong experimental component, artists on the line-up are invited to collaborate with each other on the night to deliver a cross-genre, one-off performance.
For the first instalment of HEATWVE, Los Padres themselves will take the stage for an extended set featuring a few special guests. Expect new songs and a healthy dose of experimental math rock to distort your Wednesday night.
As a fanzine, The Juice has always been about mutation and growth, both technically and aesthetically. Having passed the half-decade mark last year, we started thinking about what growth means.
Enter The Juice Fanzine #06: The Growth Issue.
Personal, economical, social, or even cultural growth is an idea deeply carved in western societies. But where does it lead? And what are the consequences? And how does it manifest itself on different aspects of life?
As usual, the theme is broad and open for interpretation. And as always, we need your help. With the zine we present a platform for creative and personal expression and we consider all submissions.
We want to get up close and personal, as any fanzine should do.
The Juice is still about music, art, travel, creative projects, open-minded thinking and everything in between, keeping a strong political and social ethos.
Carrying over goals from previous issues, we would particularly like to hear from people who have never collaborated with a fanzine before and/or people from minorities who are underrepresented in mainstream media. Illustrators, bloggers, writers, photographers, gardeners, cooks...whatever your craft or passion, if you'd like to see something of yours published, give us a shout.
The theme and guidelines mentioned above are not exclusive and strict, so to be clear: this is an OPEN CALL to ANYONE AND EVERYONE. Your ideas will be taken in consideration even if you don't particularly want to talk about any of this.

This month, the ragazzi are headed to their homeland for some live shows and a good top-up on their vitamin D levels. In the luggage they'll bring the latest Struggle 12" EP and maybe a new song or two.

heka is giving no truce to 2018. Adding to her live gig happening on March 7th, she's also doing a little appearance on the Get In Her Ears radio show, presented by the lovely Tash & Mari, who have been nothing but supportive of her music (listen here their late 2017 episode where they introduce heka's music around the 1h 23m mark).
The show promotes A LOT of new music with female presence so we're really excited to have one of our artists showcase her talent in such a meaningful environment.

Heka likes to keep things intimate. So for her first live performance in 2018 we asked the folks at the always welcoming Rye Wax in Peckham if they'd let us do something different.
Bringing the songs compiled on her Singles Collection - which we released last December - into a live setting for the first time means this is a rare opportunity to witness raw artistic process and experimentation, watching each track blossom into a new version of itself.
Supporting her will be John Haycock, a very talented multi instrumentalist who delivers meticulously crafted songs through means of live looping and his home-made kora (21 string African harp).
RE.ZX will do a DJ set to warm things up with an hour of music carefully curated for the event.

The year that just ended marked seven years of Juicy. When started, the plan was just to follow a passion and put out little artefacts, pieces of time really, that I believed in, while collaborating with old friends and making new ones along the way.
Even though I've striven to be professional and serious from day one, I've been shit at some areas of running a label. One of them was financial control and overall accounting.
Juicy has been a "money pit" since its inception, a financial black hole acknowledged from early on. That was until 2017.
The goals of achieving balance in our cash flow and finishing the year "on green" - without monetary loss - were established last January and I'm happy to announce we have delivered. It's a tiny achievement but it feels like a huge step forward. A step out of darkness and not knowing if we could ever afford to work on another project.
This is not a self-indulged pat on the back, it's a thank you note.
THANK YOU to everyone who has been part of the journey so far: every artist we have worked and are currently working with, zine collaborator, release partner, distributor, every single friend and absolute stranger who by any shape or form has supported what we do. Means the world.
Let's try to do better this year. On to the new challenges of 2018.
It's about time we announce this one. Following a series of songs published in all major digital and streaming platforms, it's with a warm feeling in our hearts that we release our last physical record of 2017: the Singles Collection by the wonderful Heka.
As the last instalment of the release, the single When the Feeling's Over / Rewind, Not is Heka's final dive into lo-fi folk and experimental shenanigans. Check out the video above and keep watching for some hula-hoop action.
The Singles Collection consists of four A6 postcards in a string & washer envelope, each postcard showcases the cover artwork for each single and customised lyrics on the back side. The envelope itself has been hand-stamped with Heka's logo - all designed by the artist herself. Four singles, four postcards, eight songs, all for £5+VAT. Zines are on the rise. With the general public getting switched on what fanzines represent and the alternative perspectives they bring to the publishing world, the demand has risen, and more and more bookstores are now accepting to stock indie and DIY publications.
This is great. But we don't really care about any of that. We opt for stockists who have been supporting the zine community for a long time and which curation we really admire from the moment we walk into their stores. I remember the first time I heard it, in Alessandro's little studio, just at the end of the listening session for what would become their new Struggle EP. It was meant as a taster only, an unpolished version. But Heka's voice crept up on me and I was taken away. I reached out to her on the very same day to see if she wanted to work with us on something.
That something is almost here, so now you get to be taken away too.
